YETIS! ~6.5 miles, ~2,400 feet of elevation gain
Discover the majesty of the White Mountains, that is Lonesome only in name: Cannon Mountain in the famed Franconia Notch! And this trip has a twist...it's yeti themed! Dress as an elusive mountain beast or a courageous hunter. Costumes and props encouraged: yeti masks, shaggy coats, plastic and foam weapons. Yeti lore will be created-err dispensed- on the trip.
We'll be hiking from the Lafayette Campground trailhead off of I-93, taking the Lonesome Lake Trail up to, you guessed it, Lonesome Lake. There we may avail ourselves of the AMC Hut, a wonderful cabin (sometimes with cookies) halfway up the ridge. After, we will continue on the Lonesome trail up to the Kinsman Ridge trail, as we turn North towards Cannon Mountain.
The trip is around 6.5 miles total, with 2400 feet of elevation gain from the parking lot to the summit. This is a beginner trip where we will practice: -Eating, drinking, and peeing! (the happiness triangle) -Layering -Getting used to gear, especially footwear and traction devices like crampons and microspikes. -Having fun!! -Chasing yetis...(see pictures from last year's yeti trip http://mitoc.mit.edu/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=428072)
*Note: One of the cars for this trip is leaving from Boston Saturday morning and returning Sunday night, with an overnight at Camelot in between. If you're doing a Saturday hike on the West side of the White Mountains, contact the leaders and join our carpool!
