We will be heading out to the Shawangunks preserve to climb multi-pitch trad! The Gunks has a huge selection of easily accessible and very fun multi-pitch trad climbs ranging from 1-3 pitches.

Itinerary

We will assign Saturday climbing groups ahead of time by matching participants to leaders based on participant goals, skill levels, and car / camping restrictions. You should coordinate Saturday climbing plans directly with your climbing group. We will not be meeting en masse anywhere Saturday morning.

If you prefer to drive up Friday night, we have some sites reserved for Friday night at the AAC campground; if many people want to stay Friday, some may have to stay at Vernoy Kill or the Hemlock Ridge MUA. We'll coordinate with the rideshare later this week.

We will climb all day Saturday, camp together Saturday night, and then climb on Sunday before driving home.

Passes

You will need to purchase a day pass or Gunks annual pass to be able to climb at the Trapps / near Trapps. We'll send out more info in the pre-trip planning email.

Accommodations

MITOC has reserved campsites for Saturday night at the following location (some sites available for Friday as well).

Samuel F. Pryor III Shawangunk Gateway Campground 953 Route 299 Gardiner, NY 12525

Food

MITOC will provide dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday. All other food/snacks are your responsibility.

Note: You should bring your own plate and utensil(s)

Goals

We hope to put to use all of the various technical rope and multi-pitch skill. Specifically we hope to give climbers the chance to practice rappelling, building anchors, and placing gear!
