Let’s get together and learn more about diversity, equity, and inclusion in the outdoors! We invite MITOC leaders or those interested in becoming MITOC leaders to gather virtually for a 4 session discussion group on these issues.

Goals:

  • Identify and examine systematic barriers to outdoor access

  • Listen and learn from BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) experiences of the outdoors

  • Recognize the perspectives and privilege that we, as leaders, bring to our community

  • Reflect on how to create affirming, accessible experiences for all MITOC participants and community members moving forward

4 meetups - Wednesdays, 6-7pm EST

  • Meetup 1 - July 29 - Who recreates outside? - White privilege and access

  • Meetup 2 - August 5 - Digging into barriers: Class, race, gender, intersectionality & more!

  • Meetup 3 - August 12 - Native Americans, Native Lands: Present day explorations

  • Meetup 4 - August 19 - Effective allyship - Next steps

A running communal google doc with readings and notes will be used throughout the sessions. The google doc and zoom link will be emailed to those who have signed up here before the first session. If you sign up after the first session please email Hannah & Asha to request access to the doc.
