We will be heading out Saturday morning with an epic goal: a winter overnight + a hike above treeline. When you return to the cars on Sunday afternoon, you will have won glory, found love, boiled water, slept through a small snowstorm, seen many rocks and trees, and crossed the legendary Franconia Ridge at dawn.
Saturday:
We will hike 5.6 miles and gain about 2000' of elevation, then camp at the Liberty Springs tent site. We can tag the summit of Mt. Liberty either Saturday afternoon (for an extra 1.2 miles on the day) or on Sunday morning, depending on time.
Sunday:
We will wake up and pack up camp probably before dawn. Then, we will hike up to Mt. Liberty (if we didn't do it on Saturday) and continue along the ridge to Little Haystack (2.5 miles). If conditions are favorable for above treeline travel, we will hike to Mt. Lincoln and Mt. Lafayette across Franconia Ridge, and return to the car via Old Bridle Path (another 5.6 miles for a total of 8.1 for the day, with 1050' of elev gain and 3480' of elev loss).
