Prior winter hiking experience, or extensive 3-season hiking experience.

Being on top of Mt. Monadnock feels like being on the top of the world because it is an isolated mountain towering over its surroundings, not part of a range. The mountain is so famous that its name became an English word. It's in southern New Hampshire, hence a little closer than the White Mountains. If the weather is good, we'll be able to see Mt. Washington, Boston, and Vermont!

The plan is to hike up the White Dot Trail and down the White Cross Trail. We will need microspikes, and possibly crampons and ice axe - we'll decide Thursday after assessing the weather and trail conditions. It can be windy at the top, so appropriate warm layers of clothing are absolutely required, and we may cancel or change the hike depending on conditions.

Hike length: 3.7 miles loop (but it may be more difficult than the distance suggests, because there are steep sections that are likely to be icy).

Elevation gain: 1768 ft.
