Very good physical fitness + Experience with crampons

Kathy and Nico want to share their love for the sport of sufferfesting with new friends! This noble sport involves doing long days in the hills in rough terrain, with not necessarily great conditions -- but remaining safe at all times! We will likely experience a flavor of type II fun, which is fun after the fact. We hope you'll like it too!

We'd love to have you on this hike if you have already used crampons in your life, and you are confident you can handle a 13mi hike featuring 6294ft (1910m) of vertical gain. That's about 23 Green Building stairs, or precisely 3.65 Harvard Stadiums. Yes, it counts for Strava. Half of the distance and time will be spent above treeline, meaning it will be both fun but also require some knowledge and experience with your layers. There will be very few breaks above treeline, which means you should have good hiking-specific endurance.

We will start at Appalachia Trailhead, then go up Valley Way trail up to the Madison hut. If conditions prohibit above treeline travel, we will turn around. Otherwise, we will try to summit Madison, Adams and Jefferson and make our way back to Appalachia. At all points, we might decide to abort and go down below treeline.

Notes
  1. Tell us a (short) story on the theme of "what I learned about crampons last time I wore them". If you don't have a fun story, tell us when and where you used/learned about their use.
  2. Tell us about a recent experience of you hiking, running or (uphill/xc) skiing 12 miles.
  3. Tell us another (brief) story featuring you discovering type II fun!
