There are lots of cross country ski trips this weekend... but here's why you should sign up for this one

  1. You'll figure out why this title has anything to do with cross country skiing
  2. You don't have to get into the chaos of gear rental or return at the MITOC office
  3. You don't have to schlep the gear to your house on the T... or on your bike.
  4. You don't have the schlep the gear on the T again to the pickup spot
  5. You don't have to run home again and be late because you forgot a pole at home
  6. You don't have to squish skis into a car already squished with humans!
  7. You won't get there and realize you have two left cross-country ski boots or that you got boots from the MITOC office that don't click into your MITOC skis (the HORROR)

If you're STILL not convinced...

  • There is a professional group lesson included at 1030! And professional sizing! So we're not all attempting to do things with long sticks on our feet with no idea of what we're doing!
  • Your leaders are also new to this so there is no! shame! (only! laughter!)
  • Amy will be picking up in Boston on Monday morning, and she drives a very comfy SUV!
  • The 1030 lesson means we don't have to leave at the buttcrack of dawn! (0600 is more like the...warm belly of dawn)
  • We have cookies!!!
  • Whitaker Woods should be not-too windy
  • North Conway is super neat and we can go to a fun place for food at the end of the day! Or go on a quick field trip to see the super cool new REI!

All this could be YOURS for a mere $35 (on top of trip fees and $15 for the driver). For $35 (which we pay at Whitaker), we will get a (1) gear rental (skis, boots, poles, typically $20), (2) a 60-90 min group lesson (just us!) from someone who knows what they're doing, (not us!) (3.) a full day pass to Whitaker Woods (typically $15). SO THIS IS A GREAT DEAL! We know that as MITOCers, we just want to strap some ~murder sticks~ skis on and GO, but... have you ever had nightmares about a cross country ski trip that went one mile in thrice as many hours? maybe that's just an urban legend? like bigfoot?

We'll spend most of the day in Whitaker Woods - probably going to seek sustenance once the sun sets. Please dress in layers - warm ones for when we're standing around before/during the lesson and then appropriate (lighter) layers to go ZOOM around Whitaker Woods! Bring snacks, water, eye protection, something to keep your head warm, something to keep your hands warm, and a good attitude for learning! and fun!

Here is the website for Whitaker Woods' ski school: markdown is being silly with the underscores here so... https://www.mwvskitouring.org/xc [underscore] ski [underscore] school.html

We can take up to a full group of 7 for the lesson, so we're capping the trip there!

What does "RUN FORREST RUN" have anything to do with cross country skiing? Well... didn't Forrest (forest == woods) run across the country?

(Yes, that was a stretch.)

Notes
  1. Do you have any dietary restrictions?
  2. Have you ever cross-country skiied before? (Your answer should be no! If it is yes, please pick one of the other xc ski trips - you will have more fun there!)
  3. If life were a box of chocolates, which one would you be? (alternatively): if you had to run across the country, what would people yell at you? (Run, Forrest, run is an UNACCEPTABLE answer)
