Prerequisites
road running experience and ability to run 6-ish miles at ~9min pace on road, with breaks!

come join connor, amy, katya, and kiva (a dog!*) for some nice local outdoors activity that will hopefully keep us out of the high winds and ice in the mountains this Saturday! (although we are looking at snow! and wind! in the woods down here)

"trail running": we'll meet at Blue Hills Reservation headquarters at 0930 on Saturday, 01/18 for an intro to trail running! We're planning on the double-triangle Forest Loop mountain bike trail, which is about 6 miles. (https://www.mass.gov/files/2017-08/blue-hills-trail-map-2016.pdf) There will be breaks when needed, but not for too long because we'll be very warm and with how cold it is we will get cold very fast! we're not going for olympic-level speed, but we're going for a nice stay-warm pace, maybe just around and above chatting level.

"cold weather swimming": and an optional dip in Houghton's pond, because what's a water feature without jumping in it?

things you'll need: for the run: - good running shoes - traction (microspikes and/or yaxtrax, weather dependent) - a water/snowproof windbreaker (15mph winds!!!) - something to keep your head warm - something to keep your hands warm - we recommend leggings and long pants! and a performance/wicking baselayer - snacks and water (preferably in a running pack - camelbacks may be viable on this trip, but also bring a backup)

for the swim: - towel - something to jump into the water in (no skinny dipping!!!) - dry and warm clothes to change into

you'll be able to leave warm layers in the car! and we'll bring some jetboils for hot drinks at the end!

* if you are allergic to dogs, this may not be the trip for you. if you are allergic to fun, this is DEFINITELY not the trip for you

Notes
  1. do you have any dietary restrictions?
  2. what are you comfortable running? (include min/mile and distance, please!)
  3. will you be polar plunging with us? (optional) which of your three leaders would, theoretically, make the largest splash if there were, theoretically, a dock from which to jump into houghton's pond? (we don't think there is, but WHAT IF)
