Prerequisites
Good physical fitness, previous winter hiking experience

Join us for a long and cold day hiking the out-and-back Garfield Trail up to the summit of Mount Garfield (4500 ft). We'll be practicing layering in very cold weather, the use of snowshoes and light traction, as well as eating on the go and taking efficient breaks.

This will be a long hike! This is a 12.5 mile hike with 2960 ft elevation gain so you should be an experienced winter hiker with several long hikes under your belt. Overall, it is steep at the very end but otherwise a mild uphill. Be prepared for a long but rewarding day in the White Mountains!

Gear: We'll definitely need micro-spikes, and likely will be snowshoeing a good portion of the trail.

Logistics: The plan is to leave Boston very early on Saturday and we will have a required pre-trip meeting this Thursday.
