Want to spend the long weekend backpacking through the highest peaks in the White Mountains?

We will be heading to the Whites over 3 days of the Labor Day weekend. We will be camping 2 nights at ~4,000 feet elevation, and hiking in the wilderness for 3 days. You are in to watch sunrise and sunsets on some the highest peaks in the New England! It will be a blast!

This is a challenging backpacking trip as it involves ~20 miles of hiking and ~9,000ft of elevation gain. You need to have prior overnight hiking, camping or backpacking experience.

There will be a mandatory pretrip meeting on August 29 at 6:15pm at the MITOC office.

Itinerary:

  • Saturday (5 miles) ,
  • ~7am leave Boston
  • 10am, start hiking from Appalachian trailhead
  • 2pm, reach Valleyway tentsite, setup camp, summit and watch sunset at Mt. Madison

There will be new moon on this day. Optional night time activities involve star gazing and milky way photographing!

  • Sunday (11 miles) ,
  • 4am, wake up, quick breakfast, break camp
  • 5am, start hiking, summit Mt. Adams at Sunrise. Continue to summit Mt. Jefferson+Mt. Washington. Reach Perch and setup camp.

This will be an extremely challenging day!

  • Monday (4 miles) ,
  • 6:30am, wake up, big breakfast, break camp
  • 8:30am, hike back to car,
  • 12pm, finish hike, drive back to Boston
