Hi everyone,

Do you want to learn to whitewater kayak? Now's your chance! Join some MITOC paddle leaders on the Farmington river in Connecticut and learn the basics of river reading and river running.

This is an introductory trip and no experience is necessary. It is important that you are comfortable in the water and know how to swim, however. I promise you will get wet :)

We will have a planning meeting on Friday May 31 at 8pm in the MITOC boathouse (behind the MIT museum, Windsor street + Mass Ave) to select gear and prepare everything. We will reconvene at the boathouse at 7am on Saturday June 1 to drive to a class II river in Connecticut and we will return in evening. Please only sign up if you can commit to the gear selection meeting on Friday as well as the trip on Saturday. These trips are very popular to please don't sign up if you are unsure if you can make it, and if something comes up we need to know right away so we can pull people off the wait list.

You should plan to bring clothing that is warm when wet (wool, synthetics), a change of clothes, water, and lunch if you don't want to buy food. We will provide all of the kayaking related gear.

This is a first come, first serve trip. It is to a different river from the last round of trips, so if you had a good time last weekend you are free to sign up. Be warned that there will be a lot of review, however.

Trip cost will be $12, which is just the cost of boat rental (gas will be extra but work this out with your driver). This trip will have an additional $5 fee that goes to the American Canoe Association as this is will be an official ACA trip.

Email me if you have any questions (bodwyer651@gmail.com). Be warned that I am traveling for the next two days and may not be able to respond immediately.

See you on the river, Bo
