Do you enjoy feminism? Hiking? Bagels and hot chocolate? Building snow people while singing Disney songs?

If so, join us on Sunday to hike up Mount Pemigewaset! The hike will be 3 miles out and back (i.e., 1.5 miles each way), covering 1300 feet of elevation gain. We plan to build a snow-woman (or two!) at the summit while enjoying lunch and a gorgeous winter view. Afterward, we may explore the Flume Gorge, a flat 1.5-mile trail that weaves between mini ice falls along a frozen river.

We want to encourage and support female-identifying folks in the outdoors, especially if you are new to winter hiking. Expect laughter and positivity on the trail, and time to chat over group dinner afterward.

PLEASE NOTE: We welcome all genders and sexes on this hike, but the two main focuses of this hike are to facilitate discussions about gender in the outdoor community, and to create a supportive and safe space for MITOC women. If you’re not interested in such conversations, we would love if you can save the spot for someone who will.

To spark our trail conversations, we will listen to a podcast together in the car ride up! Episode 78 of the “She Explores” podcast is a heartfelt and inspiring hour in which author and outdoor enthusiast Cheryl Strayed discusses the fact that no matter one’s experience level, everyone has wisdom to share.

We plan to leave Boston at 6am (unless you’re already staying at one of the cabins Saturday night). This is a day trip that will carpool from and return to Boston, stopping for an early dinner together as a group after the hike.
