Do you love hiking up mountains, but feel like walking down is not as fun? Let's just butt-sled instead!

We'll start our hike from the Crawford Notch AMC Highland Center, then hike up Mt Tom, Mt Field, and start butt sliding down, grabbing Mt Avalon on the way.

Our route is about 7 miles, with 3000 ft of elevation gain. If everyone is feeling strong and summit-eager once we reach Mt Field, we could add a detour to Mt Willey (2.5 miles, 800ft).

Keep in mind that sledding means getting covered in snow, and that the temperature will be just below freezing, so you will need full face cover and a waterproof (not just water resistant) layer on top and bottom. Also be prepared to carry a very small sled (like this one) on the hike up, in addition to your normal pack.

Notes
  1. What is the longest winter hike you've done this year? If none, what was your most intense 3-season hike?
