Hike Washington to end Winter School with an attempt at the highest peak in the Whites!
We'll take the Ammo trail to the Lake of the Clouds Hut at 5,032', where we will evaluate the conditions above tree line. If conditions look good, we will then continue via the Crawford Path to the summit of Mt Washington. If we are unable to reach Washington due to conditions or time, we may be able to hike to Mt Monroe as a backup plan.
This will be a long and steep hike with an early start. We will stay at Camelot on Friday night in order to get to the trail head efficiently on Saturday morning.
The total distance will be about 8.2 miles and +3,820' of elevation gain, with 3 miles total above tree line. Recent above tree line experience, a good system for full face cover, crampon experience, and strong physical fitness required.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the forecast looks sunny and clear but quite cold. This will certainly change but please be aware that we will quite possibly encounter windchill down to -35*F
