Join us for an attempt to summit Boott Spur this Sunday!
Boott Spur is a lesser-hiked peak just below Mt. Washington, which makes up for its lack of prominence with some of the best views in the Whites. If we're lucky with visibility, we'll have views of the Gulf of Slides as well as Huntington and Tuckerman Ravines. If not, we'll hopefully still experience some of the wildness of the wind-ravaged Alpine Garden, without venturing too far from the treeline.
To join this hike, you should be comfortable in snowshoes and ready to break trail, as it's possible the trail won't have been broken out since this past weekend's storm. Experience with crampons and/or an ice axe is definitely a plus. The recommended winter hiking experience for this hike is a prior above-treeline hike OR a below-treeline hike with more than 3000 ft elevation gain.
Total trip distance will be about 6 miles and 3600 ft elevation gain, including 2 miles above treeline. Full face-coverage (face mask/balaclava and goggles) will be required.
