- have to like winter and snow!
We've had some snow fall in the area, and it is possible that we can get some skiing in at some local XC ski facilities in the Boston Area (planning to leave around 11:30 from MIT). Possible, but not guaranteed, as we are going to see some warmer weather and even possibly some rain. However...
We will rent MITOC skis Thursday and reach out to our two potential ski areas. If they say its a wash, we will default to a hike over in the Blue Hills. However, the Weston Ski Track has "Promised" us at least something skiable, even if it isn't ideal (Heavy grooming and snowmaking capability on their small track).
Option 1: Great Brook Ski Area, 10 miles of groomed trails and our preference. If we pay for our trip passes as a group, they will shave a dollar of our pass fees and we will be charged $12
Option 2: Weston Ski Track, a short loop of heavily groomed and artificial snow. They will cut three dollars from trail passes for us so the charge would be $10.
Option 3: If for whatever reason there isn't anything skiable, grab your microspikes and get ready to climb the Great Blue Hill trail in the Blue Hill Reservation, taking us to "the highest peak on the Atlantic coast south of Maine."
You will need in addition to your winter hiking load out,
XC Skis XC Boots fittable both to you and your skis XC poles Traction (Microspikes, snowshoes, or crampons) in case we hike instead
