Psyched to try ice climbing? Bummed that you couldn't get on the beginner trips last weekend? Good news, everyone!. We're running another beginner ice climbing trip this Saturday!
We'll be going to Texaco in Crawford Notch, which offers a good range of climbs without the crowds at Frankenstein.
requirements
This trip is suitable for participants without any prior ice climbing experience, though we are requiring prior top rope belay knowledge (gym or outdoors). Feel free to reach out to us with any questions, or enhance your stock with some preparatory reading!
rough itinerary
Depart Boston Saturday AM (alternately, Intervale at less AM, provided interest/availability for keyholders, as Intervale access is restricted). Meet at the Davis Path trailhead at around 8AM, then head up to the crag and climb until the sun starts going down or we get tired, whichever happens first!
required gear
In addition to typical B-level trip requirements (food/water/layers/emergency gear/etc) we require for every participant:
- helmet
- eye protection (not rentable from MITOC!)
- at least 2 pairs of gloves (not rentable from MITOC)
- harness
- tube-style belay device (ATC or similar)
- technical boots
- step-in crampons

- what is your experience moving with crampons (winter hiking or prior ice climbing)
- would you be interested in staying at Intervale Friday night?
- what is your favorite winter snack?
- (optional )would you rather (a) have anyone you kiss turn into a Civil War-era soldier, or (b) lose the ability to distinguish between the flavor of mint and the concept of "increasing"
