Do you like skiing? Do you like campfires? Do you like 5Ks? Do you like skiing, uphill, in the snow, on the Mt. Washington auto road, barefoot, while its raining, sleeting or snowing? If the answer to any of these questions is No, Yes, or Maybe, then this trip’s for you!

Think of this trip as an introduction to winter camping or “winter camping lite” with a bunch of skiing mixed in! We'll camp along at Barnes Field Campground off Route 16 near Pinkham Notch on Saturday night.

Here’s the plan:

  • We ski the auto road race Saturday morning. (It’s not really a race, more like a 5k fun run. You can go hard if you want but most people don’t.)
  • Aprés ski party with Granite Backcountry folk.
  • Set up camp at Barnes Field campground.
  • Start a big, warm campfire.
  • Split into two or three groups on Sunday to do some more skiing. Options include the Sherbie, Doublehead, Maple Villa Glades, Randolph Forest. Whatever your heart’s content!

You must sign up for the Mt. Washington Otto Rhode race in order to join this trip. After you sign up for this trip, please email James, Colin, and Steph your race registration. This is to confirm trip participation. The race is expected to sell out, and we cannot have people on the trip who have not registered for the race. We will only approve people for the trip who have signed up for the race.

You should expect the following fees for the weekend:

  • Otto Rhode Race: $25-35 (Not paid to MITOC)
  • $20-30 if renting equipment from MITOC
  • $20-30 for your drivers
  • About $10 for camping
  • About $5 for wood
  • No MITOC trip fee given the cost of the race
