Prereq: You must be a Winter School Graduate to attend this trip.

Description: This is an awesome trip that can show you some of the most exciting terrain the white mountains has to offer!

This trip will bring you from the Pinkham Notch Visitor Center up to visible distance of the two major ravines on Mt. Washington, TUCKERMAN'S and HUNTINGTON'S RAVINE. We will discuss the climbing destinations on these ravines and techniques used to ascend them, spending some time at Hojos (The Caretakers Cabin) just beneath Tuckermans.

The main trail making the route will be Tuckerman's Ravine Trail, a well maintained and frequently used trail. Huntington's Ravine will be accessed by the fire road winter route, also reasonably well maintained. However, there is not inconsequential elevation gain and travel on snow, so it is not an easy hike. Expect an overall distance of 5.8 miles.

You will need to bring a layered system of clothing that is designed to the principles described in the winter school lectures you attended. Baselayer, middle layer insulation pants and jacket, waterproof/windproof shells, insulated boots, puffy jacket, gloves hat etc. Rusty on what you want to bring? Email Andrewnrdoig@gmail.com and we can discuss.

Please bring your insulated water bottles (2 litres total, and socks will work to insulate them), lunch, and snacks. I do plan on making some cocoa when we discuss at Hojos so a cup would be a plus.

There has been considerable snowfall in the whites this season, so flotation and traction (microspikes, snowshoes) could possibly improve your experience immensely. There may be an opportunity to rent these through MITOC on Monday if we can get the office open for a few hours. Signed up participants will be made aware.

Costs: Please expect to pay for wear and tear on my family's personal vehicle at $10 dollars per head. If we have enough signups, we will rent a minivan to accommodate. That will bring costs up to $25 a person. Have venmo, paypal, happy to accept cash and checks also.

So stoked to meet you and check out the great climbing on Washington!
