On Tuesday evening we'll be doing a Self Rescue BBQ near Simmons Hall on campus. This should be a fun, casual opportunity to refresh/practice your self-rescue skills and meet other safety-conscious climbers.

Activity

Practicing self-rescue skills and enjoying food/socializing

  • Escaping the belay
  • Ascending rope
  • Hauling/mechanical advantage systems
  • Other ideas welcome

Food/drink:

We'll provide a hot grill and be doing food potluck style. Please bring something to share if you want to eat.

Bring:

  • Any gear that you would expect to have in a self-rescue situation (Harness, carabiners, prusik cord, cordelette, etc.)
  • Food to grill

  1. Please describe your experience with (i) escaping the belay,(ii) ascending rope, and (iii)hauling as A - did some independent research/practice, B - took a professional course, C - learned and try to practice from time to time, or D - use regularly. (example: i - B, ii - C, iii - C)
