Spring is here but the White Mountains are still covered in snow and ready for MITOCers to adventure through them! Join Nick, Emily, and Fiona in an ambitious attempt to hike two 4000-footers, Middle and South Carter.

This will be a very strenuous hike: 11 miles and 3,900’ elevation gain. Experience with winter hiking, long distance, and elevation are mandatory. We may be breaking trail.

Due to anticipated conditions, temperatures in the low teens, it is imperative you have experience with the requisite gear for this trip (insulated winter boots, thick gloves/mittens, microspikes, layering/delayering). It will also be crucial for us to move efficiently--high physical fitness/endurance for this trip means being able to go for 30+ minutes at maximum heart rate without breaking. Having previously completed a ~10mi winter hike and/or >12 mi 3-season hike and being able to keep a >2mph winter hiking pace are other good metrics. Plan for short, efficient food and water breaks along the trail (conditions might not allow for lengthy stops).

Our plan is to leave Boston by 4:30am on Saturday 3/24 so that we have an early start for our long day. We will cover the required gear and logistic details at our pre-trip meeting. Please contact Nick, Fiona, and Emily with any questions before our meeting.
