~5 miles, 2000' elevation gain
The western portion of Wildcat Ridge (along the Appalachian Trail) has a reputation for being steep and difficult. We will attempt to reach the Wildcat D peak (4062') from Pinkham Notch Lodge via Lost Pond Trail (0.9 mi) and Wildcat Ridge Trail (2.2 mi). We'll stop for lunch at the ski lodge near the summit of Wildcat D, then glissade (slide) down along the green ski slopes!
Crampons and ice axes required. Be prepared for some icy bouldering!
We will leave Cambridge on Saturday morning at a reasonable hour, avoiding Friday night's predicted snowstorm. In addition to being a fun challenge, this trip might be a good way to get to Intervale by Saturday night in preparation for a longer Sunday hike.
