3 miles, some ups and downs
Busting out the sundress/shorts since it's going to be 50 F in Boston on Friday? Keep it out, because we want to stumble our way along the Skyline Trail in skirts. Of course, these will be OVER our WS appropriate gear ;) This trip is open to all folks, even those that don't normally wear skirts. I don't care what chromosomes you have.
This hike is great if you're new to winter hiking, or if you want to test out new equipment, since we won't be out for too long. It's also good if you're trying to finish your thesis and want to only be out for half a day (hint - this is the case for your fearless leaders). Though it is a short trip close to Boston, the weather will still be nippy (27 F/-3 C) and the trail will be icy from the rain previous days.
Plan: Cars leave Cambridge/Boston at 8a, return 1p or earlier (more details to come).
Trail Description from the Internet This popular loop trail crosses several summits offering panoramic views. The highlight of the hike is Great Blue Hill, the highest peak on the Atlantic coast south of Maine. The North Skyline Trail begins at Reservation Headquarters. Follow the blue blazes up the woodland trail across from the porch. Turn right on the footpath 50 yards away from the headquarters. An alternative is starting from the South Skyline Trail which begins near 725 Hillside St., 200 yards south of Reservation Headquarters in the direction of Houghton’s Pond.
