SHRE'H'EED the GNAR with Jacob and Andrew at the singularly beautiful Flume Gorge. It's basically the ice equivalent of that planet from AVATAR (the 3D movie, apparently there's a TV show?). (If you're wondering where we'll belay, the floor is frozen over)

Goals: Have you improve your steep ice technique as much as possible, as fast as possible.

The plan: Leave Boston at 5:30 and make the short walk in to the Flume Gorge. We'll begin with the general principles of vertical climbing, work on swinging and kicking properly, as well as transitioning between the two. After, we'll begin lapping the lines we've set up, fine tuning things as we go. We're hoping to get four ropes up so everybody is either belaying or climbing and getting plenty of practice. We'll also cover movement patterns, efficiency, what features to seek out or avoid in ice, and more if you are interested! Our hope is that you end the day with solid technique and an improved sense of of how things should "feel."

What we're looking for: You needn't have any ice experience (in fact this is geared towards people with little to no ice experience), but we do ask that you climb regularly in the gym setting. There will be an emphasis on technique, so you should be open to working on that as opposed to merely climbing. You don't have to be crushing V8's but we do want folks to have enough endurance and familiarity with the fundamentals of climbing movement that they are able to take full advantage of the day.

Notes

Please describe your ice and gym/rock climbing background (how frequently you're currently climbing and what you feel comfortable climbing). Also, mention any car related information, how stoked you are, if you happen to have a dry treated rope, and or if you happen to own any of your own ice climbing gear (specify whether you own tools, boots, or crampons). Please err on the side of more detail.
