Prerequisites
Gym or outdoor climbing experience. Should know how to lead belay, tie in with figure 8.

This is a two-day Self Rescue Course (rescue fallen leader, fallen second, hauling systems, load transfer, escaping a belay) taught by Synnott Mountain Guides in North Conway with instruction taking place at Cathedral/Whitehorse. Participants will be staying at the Intervale Cabin.

Cost is $200 per person (eligible for leader subsidy).

This is a really fun and beneficial course for anyone enjoying rock climbing outside (especially those interested in multi-pitch climbing and leading). While aspiring trad climbers will get the most out of this course, even those who do no leading can benefit as a significant portion of the course is about rescuing a fallen leader. Participants should plan on heading up Friday night, or VERY early Saturday, and stay at the Intervale cabin both nights.

During the course you will learn various techniques, and break up into smaller groups to practice.

Techniques you'll learn: - Friction hitches / load releasable knots - Rescuing a fallen second - Rescuing a fallen leader - Escaping belay - Load Transfers - Rope Ascension - Passing a Knot - Hauling systems (3-to-1 and 5-to-1)

Not much previous experience is required, however learning to tie a munter hitch, munter mule and a few other knots such as prussik and klemheist ahead of time will be beneficial. This course is highly recommended for anyone looking to join our climbing leaders program. Some materials will be provided ahead of the course.

Let me know if you have any questions.
