Prerequisites
You have to have ridden a mountain bicycle before. Fatbikes are pretty forgiving, but the trails aren't completely flat. :)

Ever ridden a fatbike*? Want to try? MITOC has a few, and it turns out we can rent them in Waterville Valley as well. So come join us on a fatbike ride up some gentle hiking trails to Greeley Ponds in the White Mountains! We'll pack up bikes at MIT and leave early (5:30-6am), to get to Waterville Valley when the rental shop opens. We'll practice some creative strapping in order to get all of our gear mounted on the bikes, then it's a 7-mile ride up to the Greeley Ponds Scenic Area. From there, depending on the time and how people are feeling, there are a few options... down the other side to the Kancamagus Highway, up a side trail, or back to Waterville Valley. Whichever way we go, it's going to be a blast!

Bike rental from MITOC is about $15/day, and rental up in Waterville Valley is about $40/day. To keep things fair, we'll take the total cost of fatbike rental and divide it evenly among the people on the trip.

  • Don't know what a fatbike is? It's basically looks like a cartoon mountain bike, with really fat tires. They get tons of traction, and are a lot of fun on/in the snow.
