Come try to ascent New Hampshire's little K2 (© Lhakpa Sherpa)!

We'll take an early start on Sunday morning to try to hike an ambitious loop in the Presidential Range: get up Mt Washington via Lions's Head, head down towards Lake of the Clouds hut, summit Monroe (out and back) and get back down via Boot Spur.

If we manage to finish the whole loop, the hike will be 10 miles, with 5000 feet of elevation gain, and nearly 6 miles above treeline.

You absolutely need previous above treeline winter hiking experience to sign up for this trip. In particular, you should be very comfortable with:

  • Using crampons on steep terrain (a section of the trail is very steep)
  • Full face covering

You also need to be in a good shape and able to hike at a good and sustained pace, taking few and efficient breaks.
