Prerequisites
You must be able to travel in avalanche terrain (~ 34 to 42 degree snow slope), either on foot, snowshoes or skis, there are no requirements for previous training.

With Chauvin Mountain Guides, we will be hosting a course AIARE 1: Decision Making in Avalanche Terrain.

Where: This course will take place at Chauvin Mountain Guides in North Conway, NH and practicals will be in the Pinkham Notch area.

What: AIARE-the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education-is the primary provider of Avalanche courses in the country. AIARE 1 (http://avtraining.org/aiare-level-1/) is the introductory/recreational course, in which students will develop the fundamentals of trip preparations, decision making, and rescue in avalanche terrain. You should take this course if you are a skier, climber, mountaineer, or winter hiker that spends time in avalanche areas. You will spend part of your time in lectures indoors, but most of your time will be outside doing practicals. This will involve winter hiking or backcountry skiing. You must bring all appropriate gear and clothing to move in above-treeline winter conditions to participate in this trip. Price includes the use of Avalanche Rescue Equipment (beacon, shovel, probe).

Cost: The cost of this course will be $350 per person.
