Mount Whiteface (4020') is among the White Mountains' 4000-footers, and has a good mix of forest trails and mildly exposed terrain, ending with a beautiful 180-degree vista from the south summit. There may be short icy sections on rocks that would be a good test for traction. It is a great warm-up hike for those aiming for above treeline hikes later on this winter school. The loop to the Whiteface summit is 8.2 miles with a 2880 feet elevation gain, and should take approximately 7 hours.
