Hi all,

As Winter School comes to a close, it's time to start thinking about our favorite activity: whitewater kayaking! We can't get out on the rivers yet, but we are offering kayak rolling instruction in the Alumni Pool Fridays in February and March. No kayaking experience is necessary, although you should be able to swim and be comfortable under water. These lessons are targeted at complete beginners. This is a great chance to pick up some useful skills that will make spring/summer boating trips much more enjoyable and allow you to progress more rapidly.

In previous years, the way we organized pool sessions made it difficult to attend multiple sessions, and this is generally necessary to learn to roll successfully. We want people to come to several successive roll sessions, so this year we will do things a little differently. The first four pool sessions are March 8, 15, 22, and April 5 (that's right, we skip a week). Think of these as a "rolling boot camp." If you are selected in this lottery and attend the March 8 roll session, you will be invited back to the next one, and the next one, and the next one, for up to four rolling sessions. If you can't make it, or decide that kayaking isn't for you, we will lottery off your spot and someone else will take your place for the remainder of the roll sessions. Rolling takes time to learn and we want everyone to have a bomb proof roll before the spring snow melt!

You must be a member with a signed waiver to participate. Cost will be $15/poll session (this is just to cover the pool rental fee). We also have nose plugs available for purchase for an additional $10 (these are reusable). Pool sessions will be 7-9pm at the Alumni Pool (STATA Center).
